چکیده

In tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.), the effects of combined drought (D) and high temperature (HT) stress during flowering stage had not been studied in detail. Therefore, this study was conducted with an objective quantifying foliar spray melatonin under individual HT stress. At stage, D imposed through withholding irrigation, while exposing plants to ambient (AT) along increase +5 °C. Under + HT, were first subjected followed by a 5 °C AT. The duration or ten days. 80% available soil moisture, 100 µM sprayed on D, treated plants. Among stresses, increased thylakoid membrane damage decreased photosynthetic rate fruit yield more than Foliar produced [D: 31%, HT: 26%, 18%] antioxidant enzyme, viz., superoxide dismutase, catalase, peroxidase, ascorbate glutathione reductase, activity over stress-control 24%, 22%, 19%] 32%, 23%, 16%] Hence, it is evident that melatonin-sprayed may be associated defense system. Melatonin as novel biostimulator has great potential scavenging free radicals activity, which shields from therefore helps mitigation.

Modulation of Antioxidant Defense System Is Associated with Combined Drought and Heat Stress Tolerance in Citrus

Drought and high temperatures are two major abiotic stress factors that often occur simultaneously in nature, affecting negatively crop performance and yield. Moreover, these environmental challenges induce oxidative stress in plants through the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Carrizo citrange and Cleopatra mandarin are two citrus genotypes with contrasting ability to cope with the...

Evaluation of salinity response through the antioxidant defense system and osmolyte accumulation in a mutant rice

In order to assess the responses of Hashemi rice genotype and its advanced mutant line under salinity stress of 100 mM Sodium chloride (NaCl) for three and six days the shoot samples were taken for biochemical analysis. This experiment was performed in split plot based on randomized complete block design with three replications. The main factor was factorial combination of saline treatmen...

Cadmium stress consolation in melatonin supplemented Cucumis sativus through modulation of antioxidative defense system

Current studies elucidate the metal stress attenuation potential of melatonin in Cucumis sativus seedlings growing in cadmium contaminated conditions. Melatonin is an indoleamine molecule, capable of ameliorating environmental stresses and regulate plant growth. Seeds of C. sativus were immersed in different levels of melatonin and grown under cadmium stress for 15 days. Cadmi...

Metabolite profiling of barley flag leaves under drought and combined heat and drought stress reveals metabolic QTLs for metabolites associated with antioxidant defense

Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) is among the most stress-tolerant crops; however, not much is known about the genetic and environmental control of metabolic adaptation of barley to abiotic stresses. We have subjected a genetically diverse set of 81 barley accessions, consisting of Mediterranean landrace genotypes and German elite breeding lines, to drought and combined heat and drought stress at an...
